Scotch Plains, NJ · Licensed electrical contractor
High Class Electric is based right here in Scotch Plains. We do residential electrical work for homeowners in town and across Union County, from panel and service upgrades to EV chargers, generators and the problems that just won't go away. Carlos Rocha, the owner, comes out for every estimate himself.
What we do
Most of our calls fall into one of these. If yours doesn't, call anyway.
Replacing an old or full panel, or moving from 60 or 100 amps up to 200. A standard complete 200-amp service upgrade typically runs around $4,995. Some jobs cost less, some more, and you get the number in writing after we see the house. More on service upgrades
Level 2 chargers in the garage or driveway, with a load check first so the charger doesn't overload your service. More on EV chargers
We manage generator jobs start to finish, including permits, inspections and coordinating the other trades involved. More on generators
Breakers that keep tripping, dead outlets, flickering lights, GFCIs that won't reset. We find the cause and fix it properly.
Recessed lighting, fixtures, chandeliers, under-cabinet and outdoor lighting, including finished basements.
New circuits for kitchens, laundry, hot tubs, mini-splits and home offices, plus whole-home surge protection at the panel.
Local know-how
A lot of houses in town have been added on to and updated over the years. The electrical often hasn't kept up.
Not sure if your panel can handle what you want to add? That's exactly what the estimate visit is for. We check your service size and current load and tell you plainly what's needed.
Permits & inspections
Electrical permits in town go through the Township of Scotch Plains Building Department at 430 Park Avenue. We prepare and file the electrical subcode paperwork.
Scotch Plains is served by PSE&G. For service upgrades we schedule the disconnect and reconnect at the meter with them.
We schedule the township electrical inspection and meet the inspector. You don't have to chase anyone.
Permit, utility and township fees are spelled out in your written estimate, so there are no surprises at the end.
Google reviews
"Carlos was excellent. He discovered an outlet not grounded with loose wires. He rewired it and put in a new box. Spent close to an hour and a half checking all our outlets and panel. He is experienced, clean, smart and very nice."
"Searching for companies that perform the work correctly and with all the necessary security is not easy. High Class Electric are the best — serious people dedicated to their quality of work so the inspection went without any problem."
"I am really happy with Carlos and his crew. They installed a portable power station with 2 batteries in my house. It is important to have it for hurricane season."

FAQ
Most electrical work beyond simple like-for-like replacements needs an electrical permit from the Township of Scotch Plains Building Department, including service and panel upgrades, new circuits, EV chargers and generators. We file the permit and coordinate the inspection for you.
We do. A service upgrade needs the utility to disconnect and reconnect power at the meter. We schedule that with PSE&G and the township inspection so you're not juggling three calendars.
